Bible studies for all ages begin at 9:30 AM, and worship begins at 10:30 AM.
Park in the lot behind the church off Spring or Pleasant Street. Guest spaces are marked near the Main Entrance, and someone from our Welcome Team will meet you in the foyer to help you find wherever you need to go.
You will see everything from suits and dresses to jeans and T-shirts. Nobody will ask you to stand up or introduce yourself.
Children's Ministry for ages 4 to 11. Youth Ministry for teenagers 10 to 18. Senior Adults Ministry for those 60 and over. Our Child Care Center, a state licensed daycare serving Independence families. Community Ministries, serving our neighbors across the city. And our Prayer Line, a weekly devotional and a place to share whatever you are carrying.
On April 3, 1845, twelve believers gathered to organize what would become First Baptist Church of Independence. The town was still a frontier stop for pioneers heading west on the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California trails. They had no sanctuary. They met in homes, in stores, and in the Jackson County Courthouse.
Since then this church has ministered through the Civil War, two World Wars, the Great Depression, and enormous change in American life. Buildings changed. Worship styles changed. The Gospel did not.
Through our Missions in Action ministry and partnerships with Community Services League, Heritage House, Missouri Baptist Children's Home, Navigators, and Operation Christmas Child, our members serve here in Independence and around the world. We cooperate with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Missouri Baptist Convention, and the Blue River Kansas City Baptist Association.
